Discourage litigation. Persuade your neighbours to compromise whenever you can. Point out to them how the nominal winner is often a real loser — in fees, expenses, and waste of time. As a peacemaker the lawyer has a superior opportunity of being a good man. There will still be business enough.
– Abraham Lincoln, July 1, 1850
It may seem odd that as a firm that focuses on corporate and commercial disputes, we have cited the above quotation. Yet, it accurately reflects our philosophy. Litigation often involves a considerable investment in time, money and even emotions. As such, where possible, we strive to resolve a client’s matter without recourse to litigation. However, when litigation is unavoidable, we seek to achieve each client’s objective with determination and vigour.
